Dion/Charleston Post and Courier
Dion sings and plays guitar on tunes that include “Summertime Blues,” “Bye Bye Love,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “Who Do You Love?” While it seems that every artist above a certain age is releasing his or her collection of covers, at least Dion seems to be putting some feeling into his project.
Dion pays tribute to a slew of other artists, including Del Shannon (“Runaway”), Buddy Holly (“Rave On”) and Roy Orbison (“Dream Baby”). He even slips in a new version of his own “The Wanderer.” The best part of this package though is the bonus DVD, which features Dion reminiscing about the artists profiled here.
He was in the thick of the birth of rock and roll, and his stories and performances demonstrate why, even a half-century later, Dion is alive and well, and far from hanging up his guitar. (A-)
