About the NEW Marc Cohn record

A lot of you have been asking about the new Marc Cohn record. Here’s some information to whet your appetite.

Streets 5/25/2010

One Sunday morning in the early ’70s, a youngster in Cleveland caught
an earful of Van Morrison’s Astral Week and his life was never to be
the same. That kid was Marc Cohn and soon after that morning, he
bought everything Morrison had released to date, along with works by
Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne.

Cohn’s rootsier, acoustic neofolk style harkens back to the more
sophisticated rock and pop inflections of singer-songwriters of two
decades past — his supple, velvety baritone and elegant piano-based
arrangements frame shrewdly crafted songs ripe with pop touches.

Marc Cohn’s new record on Saguaro Road will focus on the year 1970,
an important year for music fans in general and particularly for Marc,
because many significant albums and singles were released then that
had an impact on his decision to become an artist.

The album features Marc’s personal interpretations of classic songs
written by and/or made famous in 1970 by Paul McCartney, John
Lennon, Cat Stevens, John Fogerty and CCR, Smokey Robinson,
Joe Cocker, Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Clapton and several more.

The album will be produced by Grammy-winning producer John
Leventhal (Shawn Colvin, record of the Year), who also just produced
the brand new album by Rosanne Cash, The List.

  1. Sounds a great idea – and to one who was 17 at the time I know what Marc means about the music of 1970. A plea (well, two, actually) – any chance of some gigs in England (preferably London) to promote the album? That would be so good! And hopefully the distribution of the new album will be better in the UK than was the case for Join the Parade, which I ended up buying through Amazon from Canada at about a third of the price the album cost in the few stores here that stocked it.

    Many thanks!

    Roll on 25 May!

  2. And don’t forget to visit Scotland (anywhere will do), Marc has quite a few fans here as well.

  3. Hey Marc good news a new album and really love most of the artists that you will cover but what about your own words? We love your stories and words in your songs. Any chance of playing the Somerville Theater in Somerville Ma. where we first saw you? Such a great venue. Looking forward to anything new from you and still enjoy the old. Peace, Ray

  4. Thanks for the update, cannot wait for the new album. What a great concept! Here’s hoping a song from “Sweet Baby James”, like Blossom, makes the cut.

Best of luck and be sure to return to Milwaukee, Wisconsin again very soon.

  5. Scottish concerts would be brilliant…..we’d certainly be there…along with the many other Scottish fans!

  6. Great news.

The official web site does not have a forum anymore so I have set up this one. Please everyone join and make it a buzzing place, especially with news of this new album.

PS – Marc: come to Wales!!!!

  7. Another plea from Scotland for a gig to promote the new album. Jackson’s in Edinburgh this summer with David Lindley. Why not ‘complete the set’ Marc ? Great idea for the album. 1970 was my 22nd year – great music and great time for protest and love. Also I agree with Clive Pilcher, please get the distribution right in UK this time for the new record.
