New York, NY (July 20, 2010) — Grammy winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn’s new album, Listening Booth: 1970, arrives in stores and online retailers this week (on Saguaro Road Records) amidst a significant surge of promotional activity, performances, interviews and concerts. Cohn will take time off from his North American tour for an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe July 20th, a performance on Good Morning America July 22nd, to tape an interview for NPR’s flagship program All Things Considered, and do interviews for Reuters and Fox television feeds that same day. Over the next few weeks, he will also appear on Nightline, syndicated television shows Daytime, WGN Mid-Day News and Better TV as well as the critically acclaimed radio programs Soundcheck (out of New York’s WNYC), Mountain Stage, Acoustic Café and Here and Now (heard on NPR stations via WBUR in Boston). Fans will be able to find Listening Booth: 1970 at not only the customary CD retailers, but in all Starbucks stores and Whole Foods Markets as well as part of a specially-designed campaign to reach Cohn’s audience through non-traditional outlets.

On Listening Booth: 1970, Cohn deconstructs iconic songs that were released that year, explaining, “My friend and producer John Leventhal and I wanted to make these old familiar classics sound, in effect, like you were hearing them for the first time. In the end, this record is my humble attempt to repay a debt of gratitude to the artists that changed my life, and to try and bring something fresh to their work, which, forty years later, still sounds as vital and soulful as ever.” Rolling Stone raved that “Cohn hits just the right note, letting the drama emerge from the songs themselves … He takes you from shattered dreams to spiritual deliverance” while USA Today declared “…Cohn shines…”

Cohn kicked off a North American tour last week, which will includes stops in New York City on July 28th and Denver, CO on August 11th, nearly five years to the date of being shot there during a carjacking attempt. Cohn fully recovered and embarked on a prolific creative renaissance, writing, performing and recording more than he had ever before in his career.
